Harrisburg, PA – Treasurer Torsella today issued the following statement, following the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush at age 92.
“I’m deeply saddened to learn of the loss of former First Lady Barbara Bush. While I served as President of the National Constitution Center, I came to know and greatly admire Mrs. Bush.
She was funny, down-to-earth, whip smart, and incredibly warm. She was more giving of her time and caring than she ever needed to be. And she took a vivid and genuine interest in everyone she met. Although she held her convictions strongly, she thought that political figures can disagree without being disagreeable, and was a model of civility and grace for all of us. I’m incredibly lucky to have known her, just as we all were lucky to have her in public life. I wish her family peace in this difficult moment, and hope they know that so many of us are joining them in celebrating an extraordinary life well-lived.”
