Treasurer Stacy Garrity Participates in First America250PA Bell Dedication at Historic Dennis Farm in Susquehanna County
The Dennis Farm is being honored for its contribution to American history
Kingsley, PA - At the historic Dennis Farm in Susquehanna County, Treasurer Stacy Garrity today participated in America250PA’s dedication ceremony for the first permanent Semiquincentennial Bell in Pennsylvania. The bronze bell was dedicated as part of America250PA’s work to celebrate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
“I don’t believe any location is more deserving than The Dennis Farm of being the site of the first bell dedication by America250PA. When you step on the grounds of this historic property, you’re amazed by its beauty and its history. The Dennis Farm was owned by Prince Perkins, a free African American, and passed down for seven generations. It has remained in the family for 230 years. Prince Perkins was probably too busy farming to think about how important his legacy would be, but it’s incredible.”
Pennsylvania State Treasurer, Stacy Garrity
U.S. Senator Bob Casey, Auditor General Tim DeFoor, and other officials also participated in today’s dedication ceremony.
The Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust was chosen as the first of seven historical sites in Pennsylvania to receive the commemorative bells, each a four-foot, bronze replica of the Bicentennial Bell presented to Independence National Historical Park by Queen Elizabeth II in 1976. Locations for the Semiquincentennial Bell installations are being selected to honor locations that helped shaped the Commonwealth’s history but whose stories are not widely known.
The Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust is a non-profit 501(c)(3) that was established to preserve a unique and beautiful historical site, conserve its natural resources, open the grounds to tourists and develop the site into an educational and cultural resource. It was founded by the late Hope Dennis and M. Denise Dennis, President & CEO, in 2001.
America250PA is the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Commission charged with planning and coordinating programming, projects and events in anticipation of the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. Treasurer Garrity is a member of the Commission.
