October 2020 Employment to Population Ratio

What is the Employment to Population Ratio?

While no single number captures the full health of the labor market, the employment-to-population ratio is a measure that shows the number of people currently employed as a share of the U.S. population, ages 16 and over. In light of COVID-19, the employment-to-population ratio has declined in Pennsylvania and across states nationally. As this ratio is unaffected by voluntary changes in labor force participation, it presents a key indicator for the pandemic’s impact on employment.
