Why is Population Growth important?

Changes in population growth can have long-term implications for a state, including size of the labor market, overall economic growth, allocation of federal funding, and political representation. Pennsylvania is growing, but at a slower rate than the rest of the United States. In fact, since 2010, overall U.S. population growth is more than eight times that of Pennsylvania. States with slow population growth face serious risks to future fiscal health if the trend persists over time.
